Stephanie Thibeault (Artistic Director) is a choreographer with a vision for the future of contemporary concert dance that defies categorization, but pulls its audience in with the sheer beauty, physicality, and resonance that can only be called “dance.”  Throughout her career, she has continually taken on new challenges as she uses movement to explore various aspects of the human condition. Having performed and presented work in New York City, Baltimore, Washington (DC), Lisbon (Portugal), and numerous other cities, large and small, Thibeault’s teaching and choreography have taken her around the globe, from the U.S. East Coast to Canada and Europe, and from the American Midwest to Hawaii and Taiwan. Stephanie Thibeault holds her M.F.A. in Dance from the University of Maryland, and is currently Associate Professor of Dance at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where she established the B.F.A. degree in Dance Performance. Starting her career with Kinetics Dance Theatre and SURGE Dance Company of Baltimore, Thibeault worked as a professional dancer, teacher, and choreographer in the Baltimore/Washington area before serving as a dance faculty member at several institutions, including University of Maryland, Dickinson College, and Wichita State University. Along the way, she has had the opportunity to perform with wonderful artists, including Mikhail Baryshnikov and Parsons Dance Company. Thibeault’s award-winning choreographic work has led to numerous guest artist residencies and commissions by various professional companies and universities.  Having received an Individual Artist Fellowship for Choreography from the Arkansas Arts Council in 2010, she continues to experiment with different processes and forms as she creates new work.  Her work with choreographers such as Joe Goode, Deborah Hay, Mark Haim, John Evans, Ken Skrzesz, Ed Tyler and Doug Varone have greatly influenced Thibeault’s choreography.  Self-identified as a modern/post-modern dancer and choreographer, she refuses to limit herself to only a few aesthetics. A commission from Ballet Arkansas in 2012 produced American Dream, which took Thibeault back to her classical ballet roots while moving her forward into expressive simplicity. Having experienced dance in a variety of arts communities, Thibeault understands and believes that high-quality art can be created anywhere, and that dance audiences can--and should--be built everywhere!  “We, as artists and art lovers, must continue our efforts to promote the arts and educate those around us about the joy, beauty, and fulfillment the arts can bring to each and every person’s life.”
